Fishing is an essential survival skill, providing a reliable source of food and valuable resources. On PlayZ, the fishing system is enhanced with a dedicated skill tree and a variety of perks that allow you to become more efficient, catch bigger fish, and even craft your own fishing equipment.

Getting Started with Fishing

Initial Steps

At the beginning of your journey, you have access to both fishing traps and the ability to craft Improvised Fishing Rods and Hooks. This dual approach allows you to start fishing immediately using traps while also experimenting with crafted equipment to enhance your fishing experience.

Setting Up Fishing Traps

• Materials Needed:
  • Small Fish Trap: Requires a Plastic Bottle and a Knife.
  • Fish Net Trap: Requires Netting and Metal Wire.
• Usage:
  • Place the trap in a body of water like a pond or river.
  • After setting the trap, wait for some time (15 to 25 minutes) and then check back to see if you've caught any fish (4 hours if caught).
  • Using traps allows you to gain experience in the Fishing skill.

Crafting Improvised Fishing Rods and Hooks

Since players can now craft fishing rods and hooks from the start, you can diversify your fishing methods without waiting to unlock specific perks.

• Materials Needed:
  • Improvised Fishing Rod: Requires Wooden Stick, String, and Hook.
  • Improvised Hook: Requires Metal Wire and Sharp Tool.
• Usage:
  • Equip the fishing rod and bait to actively fish in any suitable body of water.
  • Active fishing with rods can provide a different experience and potentially different types of fish compared to traps.

Gathering Bait

Since you can use both traps and fishing rods, having sufficient bait is crucial for maximizing your catch.

• Digging for Worms:

  • Tool Needed: Knife.
  • Ground Type: You can only dig for worms on earthy or muddy ground—not on snow or hard surfaces.
  • Process: Equip the knife and interact with the ground to dig for worms.

  Note: You cannot dig for worms on snow-covered ground or hard surfaces like roads and rocks.
